DO NOT USE THIS TRADESMAN. He provided a fixed price for a refurb job and at my request, a breakdown of each item included in the price. He said he was qualified to install electrical items and down-lighters that conformed to fire regulations. This was untrue. After two days worth of work, he demanded payment of £1000 even though the job had not been completed and there remained a number of defective items to be addressed. Despite my reservations, I agreed to pay Kevin £800 on Saturday 31 March. He told me he was unhappy I hadn’t paid the full amount but confirmed he had arranged for a tiler to come on Monday and that he would return on Tuesday to finish off the rest of the job. I text Kevin on Sunday to confirm what time the tiler was coming. I received no response. On Monday the tiler didn’t appear. I text and telephoned Kevin a number of times but he didn’t reply. I telephoned his home and his wife told me he was ‘still at work’. I asked her to leave him a message to phone me urgently. He never responded. By late Tuesday it was obvious he wasn’t going to contact me. I had to engage another joinery firm to complete the work which incurred delay and extra expense as they had to finish the job and rectify some of Kevin’s defective workmanship. I have therefore reported him to Trading Standards. I hope by reading this you will not suffer the same fate and if you have already engaged him to do work, make sure you do not pay him until everything has been completed.
