I recently cleared out my loft space in order to have insulation fitted. I have been advised that before this is fitted the loft space needs to be ventilated.

The loft space covers approximately 100 square meters. Although the building itself is Victorian I believe a lot of work was done on the roof around 5 years ago. The roof is a pitched roof with slate tile.

I own a house at , Wesley Street, Wakefield which I've previously rented out but which is currently up for sale. As it is not selling I am considering taking it off the market, doing some work on it and then letting it out again.
This all depends on the cost of the works required.
There has been some damp coming into the attic bedroom which is possibly from the flashings around the 2 chimneys? Plus there is a broken fall pipe at the front of the house which has possibly caused a large damp patch in the front first floor bedroom and also some damp in the ground floor lounge also at the front.

During prolonged rain, water is getting in and seeping down the rafters in the loft, and dripping in random places. It seems to be starting near one of the chimneys, so hopefully it's just the flashing, but would like an expert diagnosis please. House has built-in stone gutters which are constricted where chimney breast rises above eaves.
