RCD,downlights,sockets adding,moving,gas fire cap,alarm
- Location: Manchester
- Hired: c&m complete electrical&building services
- Trade: Restoration & Refurbishment
- Positive feedback on 20th May 12
Job Description
Just bought our first home, first thing is it has the old fuse wire box so believe we need a new RCD.
This bit possibly for a Gas man - Front room TV wall has a gas fire that we would like removed so believe has to be capped off if terminology right? Assume a ew length of skirting to complete what was previously missing and wall made good?
Back to eleectrics, I'd like to have all the AV kit under the stairs away from kids. That would need say 2 doubel sockets installed in there. Now interesting part, that kit to feed wires hopefully into the ceiling, along, and the down the opposite wall TV wall so I can chase out for speaker cabling for surround sound front speakers. The existing socket on that wall would need moving to behind where the TV will be mounted for power.
Rear speaks on the opposite wall (same wall as under stairs cupboard) shoudl be easy drill through from under stairs and chase up - avoiding sockets though
Possibly 2 x ceiling speakers installed above couch position and wired back to amp.
6 downlighters if possible, not sure if this would require an extra run to the light switch as there are already 2 wall lights on tv wall and 1 wall on under stairs wall.
POssibly change these lights too depending on cost of everythign else.
Other rooms have sockets in cupboards that could need removing depending on advice.
THere is also an alarm that previous owners never used so would like to see if possible to get that going again
There's loads I have in mind it's just whether possible or not so all help appreacited, completely open to advice and experience, we have a vision in mind so need the help to make it now. Would need a quote for all the eltrical bits and materials, i've got all the AV stuff covered, speakers and lights (I will g and buy day before).

Rebuilding a window into a cellar exterior wall
- Location: Rochdale
- Hired: AJ Plastering & Building Services
- Trade: Restoration & Refurbishment
- Negative feedback on 4th Nov 11
Job Description
A previous cellar window had been bricked up years ago. The cellar gets a bit damp, and we would like to have the window rebuilt in, using a double glazed unit, to allow sunshine in and dry out the area better. The approx. sizing of the window opening would be 45" x 50" but as it is a 130 yr old victorian house, the walls are thick, and the external part is stone. The cellar ceiling would need to be supported at the window frame, and some exterior work needs doing to enable light and air in but not rainwater. Next door's house still has a window, so it is workable somehow. We are happy for work to start as soon as practical.
