Clear and insulate small loft

  • Location: Crofton Park
  • Hired: R Clarke Property Services
  • Trade: Insulation
Job Description

The loft is approx 9m x 9m, and no longer contains any water tanks or large fitments. Access is via a fitted loft ladder.

It was previously boarded in places with chipboard or hardboard laid across the joists, and insulated with rock wool. There is old dirt and debris of various kinds between the joists as well.

1. Remove the old boarding (which was taken up by electricians to install recessed lighting) and rock wool.
2. Hoover up remaining debris between joists.
3. Lay rock wool between joists
4. Board over joists (Screw down to allow future access to electrics, and mark location of lights).
5. Hang quilted insulation on inside of rafters.

Difficulties: Roof is only 2m at apex, so conditions are cramped. Also you will be required to be exceedingly careful to avoid spreading any dirt outside the loft!

Please quote for labour: we can discuss materials.

Fitting vapour barrier on inside of roof/attic

  • Location: Crofton Park

Job Description

My attic has no protection from the dirt outside - there are only tiles. I need to have fitted Vapour-Reducing foil-backed Plasterboard or similar.

I have a 3-bedroom 1930s semi detached house with pitched roof (i.e. 3 sides of roof) - this should give a rough idea of the size/space.

Roof Insulation

  • Location: Camden Town
  • Hired: AndReMa Construction LTD
  • Trade: Insulation
Job Description

I am looking to insulate my roof. I am going to provide the insulation materials (I'm keen to use recyclables/greener insulation which should make the job less unpleasant). The only issue is that the pitch of the roof is low and the 2 entry points are relatively small. The highest point is approx 60cm. So it would no doubt require the work to be carried out lying down.

* Added 13th May, 2010 :
I have added some photographs so you can see the area that needs to be insulated. There is no current insulation, but some things will need to be brought down to get proper access. The area to be insulated is about 35sq m. The photographs show the access points. Suggestions with regard to insulation would be gratefully received as would estimations of the time it would be likely to take. Many thanks.
