Drainage problem under conservatory

  • Location: Brighton
  • Hired: BVMH Groundworks
  • Trade: Groundwork & Foundations
Job Description

The conservatory on the back of my house was built by a previous owner, and I have been told that the foundation/drainage underneath the brick floor was not done correctly. Over the past 5 years, the drain from the back garden leading under the conservatory has got slower and slower, and water often swills around the patio, before draining slowly away. The greywater from the bath and sink in the 1st floor bathroom also comes down to this drain - letting out bathwater is a common cause of the temporarily flood of the patio. During periods of heavy rain, the kitchen floor (next to the conservatory) also floods. The water bubbles up between the tiles. It's happened 4 times this winter. Dynarod have come out to try to clear the drain, but say that there is something that is stopping the flow that they can't move, and that it will block up again. I'm wondering if I need to get the drainage under the conservatory floor relaid, or whether re-routing the grey water from the bathroom down the main sewage pipe an alternative solution. Dynarod also said that there needs to be a filter/mesh put on the mouth of the drain, and a trap for sediment created.

soil preparation on large allotment

  • Location: Cardiff
  • Hired: pritchard construction and groundworks
  • Trade: Groundwork & Foundations
Job Description

Large allotment (10 perch), soil hard, uneven and covered in grass (with some old roots still in). Plot is partially cultivated (maybe a fifth or a quarter) but the remainder is too big for my husband and I to dig over by spade quickly enough to get on top of the plot and start growing. Looking for a man with a micro digger or big heavy duty rotovator to break up the soil and level it in the hope we can get the full plot under cultivation. We have a load of horse manure to add in but additional topsoil may also be beneficial - we would be looking for some advice on this. Can anyone help?
