Hard landscaping - front "garden"

  • Location: Chingford
  • Hired: stac
  • Trade: Groundwork & Foundations
Job Description

In brief, I need the front area/garden of my house redone. It's currently all crazy paving which is broken, cracked and raised up in areas. My neighbour to the right has a tree and the roots here mean I want to try and do something that avoids repaving that area - although they have said they don't mind if we cut through the root to take it out.

Existing Dimensions (all approximate):

Front width - 550 cms
Depth house to pavement - 350 cms
Very approx rise pavement to house - 80 cms

Initial thoughts re new layout - as you look at the house:

On the left hand side - front area taken down to ground level, with new retaining wall to neighbour's property. Ground level to be paved or concrete. Low level wall approximately half-way from neighbour's property towards path to house. This ground level area to be used to store three wheelie bins - to be pulled to gap in wall on collection days.

On the left hand side - rear area as current but resurfaced with paving and slight slope to allow for drainage.

Path - to remain in current location, but ground level at front (alongside new bin storage area) then rising to a small flight of steps to door. Paved.

Right hand side - layout as current ie: front area for plants and flowers, rear area to have wall surround and gravel in place of paving (due to roots from neighbour's tree).

I don't have any strong views on materials. This is a functional area so I want it to look reasonable, and be structurally sound, but don't want to pay for the highest priced finishes/materials. If any materials can be re-used, that would be even better.

I think I can add pictures after I’ve published this listing, which I shall do.
