Replacement of old fusebox with RCD consumer unit

  • Location: Harrogate
  • Hired: AR Electrical Solutions Ltd
  • Trade: Electrical
Job Description

The original 1970 fusebox (fuse wire cartridge type) needs to be replaced with a 100A 8way consumer unit with 8 RCBO’s. Associated upgrade to earth wiring around the consumer unit to meet current standards. Safety certificate required.

House is a standard 1970 semi with currently 6 circuits/rings on the existing fusebox. Access to system is good (under stairs cupboard).

It is understood that provision cannot be made for faults encountered when making the upgrade. However, a statement of how the total outlay can be capped should be made to prevent an unknow/infinate final bill (e.g. if expensive problems are encountered, example costs are x and if budget does not allow then the result will be y).

There is no hurry for this work. However, it is mandatory that a fixed date be agreed to allow for holiday to booked. The date can be any time in the future but must be kept to.

Broken Socket - Damaged wire leading to it

Hi there,

We recently put in some new floorboards and when doing so damaged wires leading to a socket. Initially the socket worked but subsequently the socket has stopped working. Other sockets working in room so presume it is just the wire leading to that scoket that needs repairing/replacing.
Currently wire is wrapped with electrical insulating tap.

Replacement Consumer Unit & Rewiring of kitchen

  • Location: Otley
  • Hired: AMBASSADOR INSTALLATIONS
  • Trade: Electrical
Job Description

We have the following jobs that need doing. Unfortunately the only time frame available is 13th-16th July for these to be completed as we have builders in this week and plasterers in the following week.

The house is a fairly standard 1930s semi and we have just knocked the kitchen and dining room through to create one large room.

WORK TO BE CARRIED OUT:

Replacement Consumer Unit with 30mA RCD protection.

New circuits from Consumer Unit -
1 x UNPROTECTED switched double socket for fridge/freezer
1 x Cooker outlet

New outlets to be added to existing ground floor ring.
2 x 13A swiched double pole FCUs with neon cabled down to boxes/sockets under base units for Dishwasher and Washing Machine
1 x outlet for cooker hood
1 x switched double socket near cooker under base unit ( for use with future gas stove/fan)
1 x switched double socket above wall units (cooker wall) for future lighting etc.
1 x switched double socket above wall units (window wall) for future lighting etc.
3 x switched double sockets above work units

Please note we have removed the old kitchen units so it is an empty room to work in except one base unit under the sink. No plastering is required as the whole room is being skimmed. There is under floor access in part of the room (old dining room) but concrete floor where the old kitchen was.

Many Thanks

Sketched plan with measurements available on request.

* Added 29th March, 2010 :
I've attached a rough sketch plan - if this is not sufficiently legible please let me know and I will produce a version on computer. Please note that the ground floor is not shown in the sketch but hopefully is relatively straightforwards as it is only the ground floor sockets we require for the quote (and the ground floor dining room/lounge/hall are the same size as the basement kitchen/sitting room/hall respectively).

I should have added on the specification, that the consumer unit will need, in addition to the circuits for the work specified, sufficient space for at least 6 additional circuits not in the spec/plan. These are for the future upstairs circuits. If this presents difficulties please let me know as we could just add another CU in future if that is easier/ cheaper.

* Added 21st May, 2010 :
Sorry gents, believe I've caused a bit of confusion about the loft, what I was trying to say is that there is access to the loft to cable to the first floor detector, not that there's a loft room that requires another detector.
