Stud socket problem

  • Location: Maidstone
  • Hired: Magneto Electrical Services
  • Trade: Electrical
Job Description

I have only one socket in an upstairs bedroom which must be part of a ring circuit. I wanted to run a stud socket off of it but now realise I will also have to have a condensation control unit (maximum power 7.4w) run off of it as well. Can I run a stud socket off of the main socket, then run another line off of the main socket? (I don't think it's possible to run another stud off of a stud)... Or is it possible to split the line run off of the main socket so it feeds the secondary socket and the condensation unit? I need for somebody to identify the best solution and carry out the work.

Wiring Issues after installation of new fuse box

  • Location: Maidstone
  • Hired: Electrician
  • Trade: Electrical
Job Description

We upgraded the fuse box in our house from an old wired one (1970?) to a new RCD unit. This was installed by a qualified electrician and unfortunately he is not in a position to help us further.

Since the fuse box was installed we're unable to have both the lights and power on at the same time. On the rare occasions that we can, the power will soon trip if something is plugged in. This can be anything from a hairdryer, microwave, kettle - it doesn't seem to matter. It can even trip as soon as you put both power and lights on together. We've tried different approaches, so lights in certain rooms turned off with power etc, but nothing really seems to make a difference.

We're led to believe that the former homeowner did his own DIY jobs on the electrics from time to time which could be a potential cause, but we're unable to locate the actual fault.

We've got into a system whereby we only have the power on and light supplied from power source each day- the lights are only ever on when we have a shower in the morning and the power is off (although we have a power shower which works without the power on?). Therefore there's no pressing urgency for this job to be fixed, but ideally within the next month or so.

We have a couple of other minor jobs around the house too.

Finish wiring of Storage heater.

  • Location: Maidstone
  • Hired: 365 Electrical Solutions
  • Trade: Electrical
Job Description

Just bought and fitted a Creda Eco Response 500 storage heater. I've installed it as far as mounting it to the wall, fitted bricks etc, just need a sparky to come and do the wiring. We had an old storage heater that was wired in, so the off peak wiring is all in place (assuming this is suitable, the old heater was rated at 3.4kw, new one I think is 2.5). The main bit is the peak supply cable needs wiring in. The fuse box/meter is only on the other side of the wall, so needs a short bit of wire running through (all can be surface mounted) to a box. Probably an hours work at best?
