The lights that were put into my new kitchen have all blown within 4-5 months of the kitchen being fitted. I'd like a diagnosis of what went wrong and new ones put in.

I also have an extractor fan that I'd like to have tuned down as it is very, very loud.

If these jobs are simple and you could explain to me how you're doing them as you do them I'd be even more grateful!

We currently have a single fixed ceiling light in our dining area and we want to change this to a 3 light drop design. Job may require changing the position (minimal) of the existing fitting to make the new lights more central. Lights, fittings and shades provided but we do not have a ceiling fixture to drop the 3 lights from currently. House is detached 3 bedroom and approx 40 years old. Possible couple of other jobs, fit outside light (change existing fitting), same with bathroom fixture and may extra points (plugs) in Kitchen and bedroom.

Recent test highlighted the following remedial work to be carried out. New EICR required once remedial work complete.

(1) Replace 3no pendants ( lounge/hall/bed) as either damaged or missing connection cover –exposing live cables)

(2) Fit new ip rated fluorescent bathroom light as existing in toilet missing connection cover exposing live connections

(3) Replace fusebox as no supplementary bonding in the bathroom and that Fusebox is of old type with no RCD protection (approx 45+years old) with wooden backplate (firehazard). Provide full RCD protection for property.

(4) carry out bonding to gas meter/supply – run in 10mm cable from fusebox to gas meter

(5) carry out main water bond – run in 10mm cable from fusebox to most easily visable/ accesable point in property

I am a tenant in a flat in the Marchmont area of Edinburgh with a private landlord, who I have direct contact with. We have spot lighting in our kitchen and bathroom that appears to be badly wired, as the lights periodically go out without the bulbs actually burning out. I have been informed that this is an issue with the transformers. Therefore we are looking to have this lighting situation remedied.

Sorry - not a massive job but something I hope you could do if you found yourself with a few spare hours. I have a property beside haymarket station in Ediburgh - I myself live in Bathgate (hence why I'd prefer to give any work to local workers).
I have a friend who is a plumber and has done a fantastic job in installing a Sanitop macerator in my toilet. He knows all things electircal but not being a qualified electrician is unable to provide a certificate which building standards need.
The job is to have a quick check of the work and perform PAT testing for HMO purposes - circa 10 items.
