Basement room being used as a lounge (half of the basement where the other half is the kitchen) needs to be treated for rising damp.

The house is rented out and so the complexity of the job is how to do the work in one half of the room while the kitchen is still kept operational.

We have incorporated a verandah into our sitting room by enclosing it. We didn't realise that the damp-proof course did not extend into the small stub-walls of the verandah - roughly 6 metres of 9" brick extending out from the main house wall at each end and then along the front of the verandah. Consequently, there is clear rising damp into the corner at each end.
