I have received the following report from a building survey on a property I am purchasing and would like to get quotations to resolve the issue.

Ground storey walls were tested with a moisture meter and no significantly high readings were obtained with the exception of an area of localised damp on the external wall of the kitchen.
We believe that the high damp meter readings have been caused by the high external ground levels on the other side and absence or failure of effective damp-proofing from before the conversion of the external lobby [not originally part of the habitable accommodation] into part of the kitchen accommodation. Some repairs or improvements are needed.
ACTION: You should obtain quotations for damp-proofing the property (including a long-term guarantee). Any quotation should be based upon an inspection of the whole building.

Damp is coming through the corner of my living room, causing black mould to appear on the wallpaper inside. I have cleared the affected wallpaper and surface mould for now, but it needs damp-proofing and maybe re-plastering. The wall is a solid brick external wall and the damp appears to be penetrating through, rather than being caused by condensation. There is a gutter pipe on the outside which might be contributing to it.
