Water getting behind wall paper on chimney stack

  • Location: Bury
  • Hired: rapid roof repair
  • Trade: Chimneys & Fireplaces
Job Description

I have recently had a Roofer out to try and fix the problem of water getting behind the wallpaper on the left hand side of the chimney stack in our bedroom.

He tried the following things and is at a loss to what could be causing the problem:

1) Replaced the lead flashings and getting the water to run to the other side of the chimney stack
2) Put new felt on either side of the chimney stack
3) Painting on some waterproof sealer at the top of the lead flashings
4) Adjusted the tiles leading to the back of the chimney stack by putting wood under the tiles.

The builder did advise there were signs of condensation however when it rained quite heavily the water would get behind the wallpaper on the left hand side of the chimney stack in the bedroom.

However all these plus other attempts do not seem to have cured the problem so the builder did not charge me which was nice of him!

I went into the loft yesterday and the chimney stack just below the tiles still appears to be wet (there was heavy rain last weekend!) so for now I have put a towel there to try and stem the water coming down.

Please can someone give some advise and quote a price, hopefully not charging until the problem has been fixed.

Thank You

Carl
