Log Burner Installation

  • Location: Reading
  • Hired: fire expert
  • Trade: Chimneys & Fireplaces
Job Description

We previosly had a gas fire which has now been removed. We would like a log burner (something like the Stovax Stockton 5) installed, to do this i thin the chimney will need opening out slightly. The Chimney breast is 1.4m wide. The inside walls of the opening we would like either plastered or lined with GRG board. I don't think plaster will hold up with the heat though.

We would also like a wooden beam that sticks out like a mantle piece, but we have not decided if we want it built in or one of these ones you can fix onto the wall - perhaps we can discuss this at a later date.

Chimney repair

  • Location: Princes Risborough
  • Hired: LAWRENCE ROOFING
  • Trade: Chimneys & Fireplaces
Job Description

Leaking brick chimney requires attention. At some point in the past the stack has been rendered and whitewashed. The rendering is now falling off letting some damp into the loft. The brick stack is about 3.5 feet high with a small terracotta pot.

Needs correcting before next winter.

CHIMNEY COWL

  • Location: High Wycombe
  • Hired: tudor roofing
  • Trade: Chimneys & Fireplaces
Job Description

NEED A COWL PUT ON THE CHIMNEY. IT'S A STANDARD 1960S BRICK BUILT 2 STOREY DETACHED HOUSE AND THE CHIMNEY IS ON THE OUTSIDE WALL. AS FAR AS I KNOW THE CHIMNEY POT IS OK.

* Added 11th May, 2010 :
We currently have a gas fire which is a basket with coals in and the cowl is needed a) to help stop the draught coming down the chimney when the fire is not lit, although I realise that it won't stop it completely and b) to stop birds dropping seeds down the chimney if we decide to get a built in gas fire. I'm looking at having the work done quite soon.
