Hi,
I would like to install a traditional fireplace. The original was removed and covered up with a wall mounted gas fire. There was an issue with leaking gas so I had it disconnected.
I now need to re connect the gas.
Knocked through to the original fireplace and make good. I have yet to buy the new fire and surround, once I know what I'm doing I'll buy one, I already have a good idea what I want.
If this is of interest please let me know
Convert bedroom cupboards to space for fitted wardrobe
- Location: Sheffield
- Hired: wilson property maintenance
- Trade: Conversions - General
- Positive feedback on 14th Jun 13
Job Description
We have just bought a house and we will be getting the keys on Friday 24 May. We will be moving in on 22 June and we are looking to get some building work done while the property is vacant.
The main work is alteration of cupboard space between two bedrooms. This space is formed by 2 partition walls with one cupboard for each bedroom. The walls are 2.87m long and around 2.3m high. We would like to remove the partition wall of the larger bedroom and fill in the cupboard door for the smaller bedroom to leave a space for fitted wardrobes in the larger bedroom. A light switch in the partition wall will need to be moved. If possible, we would like this work to be completed by 9 June to allow time for redecorating before we move in. A drawing can be provided on request.
We are also looking to have the following work done:
- Removal of old heating vent and plastering over the hole
- Fitting bathroom extractor fan with timer to come on with main light switch
- Boarding of loft space and fitting of pull-down ladder
Please let me know if you would be able to do this work and give an estimate of the likely cost. With a view to providing a written quotation, the property can be inspected from next Friday afternoon onwards - any time over the bank holiday weekend would be ideal, or alternatively an evening in the week after.

Fencing, guttering and inside work including plumbing
- Location: Tooting
- Hired: MVZ Installations
- Trade: Restoration & Refurbishment
- Positive feedback on 13th Jun 13
Job Description
I live between Earlsfield and Tooting in a 1950's house that I moved into six years ago. I have had two sets of builders in, one of whom was OK, the other was terrible and it has made me leave quite a few jobs for a few years that I should have done and I am keen to work with someone who can cover most, if not all, of the work.
I am keen to get things started as soon as possible but will wait to ensure I have the right people working on everything.
The work I am interested in is as follows (outside and downstairs loo take priority):
Back Garden (access only through the house)
Fencing the garden, relocating the shed (need to move two large bushes and put hard standing down) and refurbishing it (unless you recommend I get a new one)
Creating a decking area (I think the garden is too small for a pergola but would like to discuss) and covering up ugly concrete areas / path
Cleaning the roof facing the back garden (very mossy)
Adding my own downpipe from the guttering, repairing / replacing existing guttering
Adding the correct outflow pipes so they drain correctly
Downstairs Loo
The toilet is an old Sanitop (sanilav?) and has recently decided to make a lot of random noise and will need checking / repairing / replacing
Lay flooring (currently concrete) - have bought laminate but no underlay / cushioning (need advice for suitable type)
Check ventilation in line with regulations – add in if required
Kitchen
Checking the plumbing and repairing the kitchen tap
Checking the electrics behind the fridge
Fitting a door on the larder
Hallway / cupboard
Lay flooring - bought laminate wood flooring but no underlay (currently part concrete part carpet)
Upstairs bathroom
Side panel of bath has been fixed in place - would like to be able to have access and to have it all checked out underneath the bath in case there has been damage (grouting is terrible)
Re-grouting of tiles
Bedrooms
Quite heavy cracking on two ceilings - need to check whether repairs required or whether it is just old and needs re-plastering. One bedroom ceiling has cracks along the outside wall; again would like to check it is all OK
Living Room
Check whether the boarded up chimney is suitable for use and if so, adding a fireplace and surround
