Build garden wall 5m long x 60cm high
- Location: Finsbury Park
- Hired: stac
- Trade: Bricklaying
- Positive feedback on 17th May 13
Job Description
The boundary of our garden runs alongside a pavement (separated by a fence). Our flowerbed is 60cm below the height of the pavement and the existing wall behind it is very uneven in depth - some bricks are missing. It is not possible to demolish the wall, so we would like to have a new wall built in front of this (as flush as possible).
There are a few concrete supports for the pavement which will interrupt the wall.
We will have this wall rendered separately (not included in this job) so the bricks will not be seen.
You can see photos of the existing wall here:

Fireplace lintel and window repointing
- Location: Stockwell
- Hired: AndReMa Construction LTD
- Trade: Bricklaying
- Positive feedback on 24th Apr 13
Job Description
We would like to open up an old fireplace in a bedroom within an approx. 1850s building now converted into flats. The original lintel appears to have been removed so we require an approx. 900mm long concrete lintel (to suit opening approx. 600mm wide) installed and made good ready to receive plaster (existing aerated concrete blocks below may be left in place- we can remove and dispose).
We also require some re-pointing either side of an existing sash window (same room as the fireplace) where a gap has opened up between the timber window frame and existing mortar - allowing driving rain to get into the wall. We presume that a lime mortar mix will be required for a building of this age. Length is approx 1.4m vertically on both sides of the window.

Various brickwork related jobs
- Location: Charlton
- Hired: kentish builder
- Trade: Bricklaying
- Positive feedback on 21st Apr 13
Job Description
Dear Nick,
You have been recommended to us by or neighbour, for whom you did some work last year (Charlton).
We have moved into our house (Victorian mid-terrace) last summer and there is a number of things that we think need to be done and it would be nice if you could have a look at the list below and let me know if these are things you would be interested in doing for us.
1. Part of a ground floor wall (maybe 3 sqm) need to be re-pointed and a few cracks filled in the brick work, as rain water has in the past found is way to the inside.
2. Air bricks need to be removed from the kitchen wall (we have recently switched from a gas to an electric cooker, so these air bricks are not needed any more and only make the kitchen quite cold in winter).
3. 2-3 cracks in the pointing in a corner of the house on the second floor need to be filled as under certain circumstances rain water seems to enter through these cracks.
4. The bricks at the bottom of the entrance archway are crumbling and need to be replaced/repaired.
5. There is a concrete floor slab in front of the house in which the old coal chute cover is embedded. Rain water is dripping though the concrete into the cellar. Would it be possible to replace the concrete and make it watertight?
6. Would it be possible to replace the air bricks to the cellar with air bricks that have integrated fly screens or to add fly screens to the existing air bricks? This is to keep insects/slugs out of the cellar.
Please let me know if you are interested in any of the above jobs or if you need any further information.
I would of course be happy for you to come around to have a look so that you can get a better picture of the extend of the works required.
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Andre.
