Job Description
Our loft currently is partly boarded and used for storage, we would like to increase the space available for storage and strengthen the floor joists so that more weight can be stored up there.
We don't want to do a full loft conversion, so will not be making this a habital space, but would like to make the loft more comfortable by:
- improving the insulation
- replacing existing glass roof tiles with a velux window
- adding plaster board on the eaves
- adding power sockets
The area we are looking at is approximately 10 sq metres. This is a 3-bed Edwardian house. We are not expecting to re-tile the roof or adjust the roof line in anyway, there is enough head room available already.
We are the owners.
As we are not doing a full loft conversion we have not submitted any planning permission or contacted building control.
We would like the work to include second fix, but not plastering of the plaster board.
We already have a loft ladder, but it is rather old, so would like to see if we can replace it.
We would like the job to be completed by Mid June.
We would like the quote to provide a breakdown of all the costs - labour, materials etc.

Paul and his son George have recently completed our mini loft conversion for us and I must say I cannot fault them. From the very beginning Paul has been great. When quoting he offered the most sensible advice clearly stating what our options were and what he recommended. His quote was received in a timely manner and as was the most reasonable. Through duration and completion of the job Paul has always been contactable. He even interrupted his bank holiday weekend by responding to an emergency (not caused by his work but an underlying problem with our roof). As part of his quote Paul also said he would install a loft ladder, we subsequently had issues with the ladder meaning Paul had to return several times and do more work than was originally thought. Paul did all this without adding to the original labour costs. I have been impressed with the end result and have recommended Paul to some of our neighbours and asked him to quote for re-tiling of our roof. If you are looking for a nice family builder who is easy to talk to, honest and committed then based on this experience I would suggest Roomers.
